Ellen & Rahul’s Magical Hanging Garden Wedding

Ellen & Rahul’s summer wedding was as bright and cheerful as they are. We worked with this couple for over a year, long-distance, to plan the colorful wedding of their dreams. Normally we don’t like to brag, but…we hit it out of the park. It was our biggest install to date and still one we’re obsessed with!

Ellen & Rahul both wore classic wedding attire; the clean lines and solid colors of their outfits served as a perfect silhouette for our bright, asymmetrical personals. Rahul’s boutonniere was fashioned with a hot pink ranunculus, an orange spray rose, and a small dried protea with a couple of blue thistles and a sprig of waxflower to give its memorable shape. Ellen’s bridal bouquet was designed using Versilia, Topaz, and Hermosa roses, hot pink and yellow ranunculus, light pink dahlias, and various colored zinnias from Christen’s own garden! The Italian ruscus and the peach stock gave the bouquet its organic shape, while the contours of the pink gomphrena and orange pin cushions upped the wow factor and tied the bouquet in with Rahul’s boutonniere. Spiky is the new round! Finally, the bouquet was finished with a green ribbon to match Ellen’s stunning engagement ring.

To welcome guests into Room 1520 and the verdant ceremony that awaited them, we wrapped one half of the staircase with smilax greenery and filled the bottom with bright, salutatory flowers. We used light colors like the Versilia and Hermosa roses, the peach stock, and chamomile to enhance the bold hues of the zinnias, the orange spray roses, and the snapdragons. A mix of Queen Anne’s lace and yellow solidago gave the bases it's plucked from an overgrown forest feel, while the pillar candles upped the romance factor.

We love working with Room 1520 for so many reasons. Their clean white, industrial walls always make our flowers look amazing. Who doesn't love a blank canvas? This was especially true for the strategically overgrown and lush look of Ellen & Rahul's wedding!

We lined the aisles with various greenery and pillar candles to welcome guests to their seats. At the end of the aisle stood a deconstructed arch styled with lush smilax to give it its wild, natural shape, peppered with similar flowers as the entranceway creating a continuity of experience. We even placed small orange roses on guests' chairs to welcome them into the "garden." We loved seeing the guests get in on the fun with the blooms in their hair and coat pockets!

The real show stoppers were the hanging floral chandeliers situated over each table. The hanging structures were a nod to the strung marigold garlands used in traditional Indian weddings. Each chandelier was crafted with, you guessed it, lush green smilax studded with bright florals like the Topaz, Hermosa, & Versillia roses, blush & orange carnations, hot pink & yellow ranunculus, and hot pink hydrangea similar to the ceremony arch. We added more yellow solidago, extra orange & pink snapdragons, and pink larkspur to up the whimsyness and let the longer florals' shape mixed with the vine-like nature of the smilax take over to give them their natural, wild wispy feel. Abundant greenery and pillar candles lined the tables complimenting the hanging globes with twinkling tea lights to complete the dreamy romantic look.

We placed a few colorful blooms on their gorgeous cake courtesy of Amy Beck Cake Design and made a small arrangement for the dessert table. One of the best parts of our hanging floral chandeliers is how they elevate the background of each captured moment. Who doesn’t want a colorful floral backdrop in every picture?

Our job is to create the wedding of our client’s dreams, but sometimes, if we’re lucky, making that happen is a dream come true for us too! Congratulations again to Ellen & Rahul, and thank you for letting us bring to life this magical midsummer fairytale.
